Greeting Card Campaign: 9-3 lower case letter day

Click here to download greeting card
september 3rd is lower-case letter day.  this holiday is, not by accident, on the birthday of american poet edward estlin cummings (e.e. cummings) born in 1894. cummings used to write poetry without capital letters - a novel idea until every amateur poet in the lower 48 was writing without capitals, after which it became kind of trite.  cummings' poetry was never trite, however. the man had a gift for using odd spacing and typewriter arrangements to make his point.  This one is one I remember from high school lit.  Try writing your own or send her this lower-case letter day card.

in Just-
spring          when the world is mud-
luscious the little
lame balloonman

whistles          far          and wee

and eddieandbill come
running from marbles and
piracies and it's
spring

when the world is puddle-wonderful

the queer
old balloonman whistles
far          and             wee
and bettyandisbel come dancing

from hop-scotch and jump-rope and

it's
spring
and

         the

                  goat-footed

balloonMan          whistles
far
and
wee

Just click on the caption below the picture of the balloon man.  The link will take you to a pdf file in Google Docs. Remember, instead of printing from Google Docs, click on "File" in the upper left corner, then select "Download" and copy the file to your own computer.  Open it with Adobe PDF Reader or whatever PDF reader you use and print the card from there. For some reason Google Docs doesn't handle fonts well, even though they are supposed to be embedded in the PDF document itself.

This is a side fold card, so when it prints, be sure to tell your printer it's in "landscape" format so you get the whole file. Flip it on the short side to print double-sided. This will save you a lot of time for reading uncapitalized poetry today.
