Greeting Card Campaign: 9-4 Lyric Poetry Day

Click here for your Lyric Poetry Day card
Today is both Lyric Poetry Day and Eat an Extra Dessert Day.  It was hard to decide which to celebrate, but since every day is "Eat an Extra Dessert Day" around here, I'm going with Lyric Poetry Day today and I'm going to celebrate with an extra dessert!  September 4th is Lyric Poetry Day, in part, in honor of the ancient Greek lyric poet Pindar was born on this day in 518 B.C..  Pindar was the creator of the ode, the classic poetry form for love poems and poems about feelings. Songs are a form of lyric poetry, which is why the words to a song are called "the lyrics".

Lyric poetry is the kind of poetry high school girls get all swoony over, even if it's couched in a rap song and instead of "my beloved" the poet refers to his sweetheart as "my be-atch".  Very weird. I do not understand modern lyric poetry. Why not write your own beloved a lyric poem today?  She'll, no doubt, get all swoony when she gets this card from you.

Just click on the caption below the picture of the romantic couple above.  The link will take you to a pdf file in Google Docs. Remember, instead of printing from Google Docs, click on "File" in the upper left corner, then select "Download" and copy the file to your own computer.  Open it with Adobe PDF Reader or whatever PDF reader you use and print the card from there. For some reason Google Docs doesn't handle fonts well, even though they are supposed to be embedded in the PDF document itself.

This is a side fold card, so when it prints, be sure to tell your printer it's in "landscape" format so you get the whole file. Flip it on the short side to print double-sided. This will save you a lot of time for writing lyric poetry today.
